Abstract

Albumen cleavage products which are probably acylated at the nitrogen atom, are obtained by causing high molecular cleavage products of animal and vegetable substances such as horn, casein, gelatine, and the like, for example a lye obtained in the acid or alkaline decomposition of leather waste, to react with the halides or anhydrides of higher saturated or unsaturated fatty acids, or mixtures of the same derived from different fatty acids. According to examples, (1) oleic chloride is condensed with technical sodium lysalbate, horn albumose obtained by decomposing horn shavings with lime, or caseose obtained by treating casein with soda lye; (2) gelatose obtained by decomposition of gelatine, is treated with chlorides of the fatty acids of linseed oil; (3) technical lysalbic acid is treated with stearic anhydride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 contains further examples relating to the treatment of a lye containing lysalbic and protalbic acids with oleic chloride; an acid leather waste lye with oleic and solid fatty acid (such as stearic) chlorines, an alkaline chrome decomposition lye with palmitic and stearic chlorides; technical sodium lysalbate with palmitic bromide; and leather waste lye with chlorostearic chloride; all the above condensations take place in presence of alkali. According to further examples, the products are employed, (1) as washing agents for carpet yarn; (2) as levelling agents in dyeing crosswound bobbins; (3) to prepare an emulsion with vaseline oil and neat's-foot oil for treatment of furs and leather; and (4) as wetting agents in mercerizing cotton. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
