Abstract
412,913. Packeting eggs. BARTON, C. N., 119, Worple Road, Wimbledon, London. Oct. 3, 1932, No. 21813. [Class 94 (i).] Eggs are packed in partitioned holders or fillers which are opened out from a collapsed state and fed to the filling station, which may be in conjunction with an egg feeding and grading apparatus as described in Specification 412,912, [Group XVIII]. The loaded fillers may be fed to a packing or wrapping station. The fillers F, which when opened present the appearance shown in Fig. 7, are fed to the right in a collapsed state in a magazine 1, Fig. 3, by a pusher 5 operated by a weight 6, and come to rest against a stop plate 4. A plunger 13 forces one through an opening 12 on to a plate 15 so as to abut against a guide plate 18 and rear plate 20, Figs. 5 and 7. A finger 16 on a conveyer 17 engages one edge and opens it into the position shown in Fig. 7, with the front edge engaging a conveyer 21 having chocks 22 which engage the filler and transport it towards the grading and delivery apparatus. A separate opening and feeding device is provided for each section of the grading apparatus. If fillers of half the size are to be used, partitions and guiding plates are placed to adapt the apparatus accordingly. The driving mechanism is common to the apparatus and the feeding and grading apparatus, and the various operations are carried out in timed relationship. A shaft 25, Fig. 3, rotates as each egg is graded and rotates change speed gears 30, 31 by bevel gearing 26, 27. According to the setting, which depends on the number of eggs to be packed in each filler, a cam pawl 37 moves the filler conveyer 21 each fourth or seventh step to bring a row of cells beneath the delivery and graining apparatus, and to take a filled row away. At each second step of the conveyer 21, the plunger 13 descends to eject a collapsed filler from the magazine for opening by the finger 16. A clutch may be fitted on the shaft 25 for disconnecting the several parts of the apparatus.
