Abstract

411,972. Tanks. CONTE, H., 37<bis>, Avenue du Roule, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Feb. 7, 1933, No. 3714. [Class 69 (i).] Tanks for wines &c. utilizable in ships or storehouses have their end walls and one or more lateral walls formed by a succession of convex circular arcs 10, Fig. 2, connected by concave circular arcs 11 of smaller radius, the lateral walls being connected to the ends without sharp angles by gusset plates, arranged preferably at angles of about 135‹ ; continuous interior enamelling is thus facilitated, and the concave portions serve as abutments or housings for supporting or bracing members 13 which connect the tanks removably to the structure of the ship or building. Beams 14, Fig. 3, for adjacent tanks may be apertured to allow workmen to pass through, and may be connected to similar beams 16 housed in the hollows of the tank bottoms. A divided tank may be made in sections C<2>, C', Fig. 9, each bounded by a diaphragm 18, 19, mounted by gusset plates 20, 21, Fig. 10, the sections being bolted together at 24 and handholes being provided for access to the space 22. In another form, a tank C<1>, Fig. 13, encloses a cylindrical tank 27. Separate tanks or compartments may be connected by pipes 23. Tanks C<5>, Fig. 15, have re-entrant portions accommodating the parts of a cylindrical tank provided with a diaphragm. Fig. 19 shows tanks of various forms arranged in a ship, a central master beam P separating the port and starboard tanks, and the sides of the tanks being sloped where necessary to fit the ship. A bulkhead D and stays 18 are provided, some cylindrical tanks are divided by corrugated partitions 30 and curved partitions 31, and tanks C<5a> are divided by undulated partitions 29.
