Abstract
411,746. Coiling strip. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Fisher, F. E. ; 36, Sanders Avenue, Scotia, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 26, 1933, No. 29744. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1932. [Class 83 (iv).] In a machine for forming cores for dynamo-electric machines, a flat slotted strip is wound edgewise between flat surfaces on members pivoted on an axis perpendicular to the strip. The strip is fed into an intermittently operated press which divides it longitudinally into two interlocking strips formed with slots and teeth as described in Specification 411,738. The two strips then pass separately into intermit - tently operated bending units A, B which wind them edgewise into helical form. Coiling. Members 44, 45 with interengaging shoulders are keyed on a shaft 30 and form a channel 46, Fig. 3, with bulged side 106, Fig. 10, into which the stock is fed tangentially. The members 44, 45 are intermittently rotated by a connecting-rod attached to a hub 32 on the shaft 30. On the forward stroke, the members are clamped together to pull a length of strip into the machine by wedge projections 56 on the oscillating member 32 forcing members 44, 45 slightly to the left against a head 42. On the back stroke the wedges move in recesses to release the stock when the members are separated by springs 58. The wedges are actuated by stop screws and cams 68 which give a sharp movement to the wedges to clamp the strip. The member 44 is provided with a diagonal slot 71, Fig. 3, at 240‹ to the point of entrance of the strip, along which the coil is fed to an annular receiving channel 73 formed between the head 42 and the member 44 on the shaft 30. A diagonal opening in the head 42 discharges the coil to a core support 111. Sizing pins 76 advanced by a cam plate 43 are projected at intervals into the slots of the coil to prevent accumulative error in the registration of the slots. A roller clutch exerts tension on the coils in the channel 73 during the idle stroke of the shaft 30 to assist it from the channel 73. In a modification, the coiling and receiving members are actuated independently and a transfer means between the members is provided. Specification 406,951 also is referred to.
