410,377. Hydraulic transmission of power. FORTUNA-WERKE SPEZIALMASCHINENFABRIK AKT-GES., Cannstatt Stuttgart, Germany. Sept. 5, 1933, No. 24587. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1932. [Class 69 (ii).] Means for producing, in a grinding-machine or similar machine tool, a feed movement approximating closely to a " plunge cut," comprises ratchet and pawl mechanism 2, 4 on the feed shaft 1 operated at short intervals by a hydraulically operated piston 13, which, together with a valve 15, 15<1> is located in a hydraulic circuit independent of other circuits of the machine. The pawl is carried by an arm 3 lifted, against a spring 5, by a cam 6, which is oscillated by a pinion 10 and a rack 12 on the piston 13 to which fluid is supplied by a conduit 14 through a throttle member 17 rotatable in the piston casing 9 by worm gearing and a hand-wheel 19 ; the valve 15, 15<1> also is located in the casing 9 and has driving pistons 16, 16<1> thereon. Fluid passes through one of two throttle apertures 20, 20<1> in member 17 to the piston and moves it at controlled speed until the cam 6 has given maximum lift to the arm 3, when the piston uncovers an unthrottled opening 26 or 26<1> and is thus rapidly driven to the end of its stroke. As the piston moves, grooves 30, 30<1>, 31, 31<1> therein uncover, near the ends of the strokes, ports 27, 27<1>, 34, 34<1> thus admitting pressure fluid to one of the pistons 16 or 161, and opening the other to exhaust, whereby the valve 15, 15<1> is moved to cause reversal of the movement of the piston 13, a feeding movement being given to the arm 3 in the first half of each stroke of the piston. The plunge cut feed may be discontinued and feed given at the ends of the strokes of the work or tool slide of the machine, and for this purpose, the member 17 is turned to close the apertures 20, 20<1> &c., therein, fluid being admitted intermittently to the piston 13 through conduits 35, 36 and bores 37, 38 in the member 17.
