[Class 98 (i).] A combined delay-action and exposuretiming mechanism for slit shutters comprises two levers adapted respectively to lock the shutter opening and closing pinions and each actuated by a cam on a pair of relativelyadjustable cam discs controlled by a single clock-work retarding mechanism, and a third lever adapted to lock the shutter opening pinion and releasable by a push-button &c., the operation of which also starts the clockwork. The delay action may be rendered inoperative by a throw-out lever disengaging one of the two levers. As shown, the shutter opening pinion 38 is engaged by the end 21 of a spring-actuated locking-lever 19 and by a release lever 26 ; and the shutter closing pinion 39 is normally locked by the end 15 of a locking- lever 11. A pair of discs 1, 2, connected to a winding-knob and relatively adjustable by a spring pin engaging holes 43, are furnished respectively with cams 3, 4 adapted, in turn, to release a lever 5 which deflects the lever 19, and to deflect the lever 11. The clockwork 23, connected to the discs, is controlled by an escapement 24 normally locked by an arm 25 of the lever 26. In operation, the discs are turned until the cam 4 engages a stud 12 ; during this operation, the cam 3 deflects the lever 5 over a stud 6 against the action of a spring 10. The lever 26 is released by means of a push-button 24, or other means, and is retained by a hook 31, the arm 25 simultaneously releasing the escapement 24. After the delay period, the cam 3 engages the lever 5 and the spring 10 deflects the lever 19 to release the pinion 21, thereby opening the shutter. At the end of the exposure period, the cam 4 deflects the lever 11 to release the shutter closing pinion 39. The hook 31 is disengaged by a cam 35 on the pinion 39 and the lever 26 is returned by a spring 28. To render the delay action inoperative, the lever 19 is deflected by a throw-out lever 16 furnished with a cam 17 adapted to engage a recess 18 in the lever 19 ; a cam 13 on the lever 16 then comes into the path of the cam 3 and limits the winding. The release lever 26 may be actuated by the movable mirror of a reflex camera.
