[Class 26.] An emptying device for bathing-tubs and the like comprises a valve operated by a lever actuated in turn by a flexible member in a tube outside the tub, the valve being situated directly above the discharge conduit, and the valve and lever being so arranged that the outflowing stream of liquid is substantially continuous and of practically constant section for all degrees of opening of the valve. In the form shown, the valve 7 has ribs 8, by which it is constrained relatively to a ridge 13 in the casing with one of the ribs in line with the operating lever 10, which is shaped to contact axially with the valve in all positions. The lever 10 is actuated by a copper strip 19 situated in the overflow pipe 5. The lower end of the strip has a series of perforations by which it is adjustably secured to a wire loop 16 fastened to the pivot pin 11 of the lever 10 in such direction that the resultant thrust on the pin always passes through the bottom of the slot in which it is situated. At the upper end, the strip is pivoted on a pin 22 detachably secured to a handle 26 pivoted at 24 to the body of the overflow device.
