Abstract

408,770. Moulding-plant. BAILLOT, A., Rue Alphonse Helbronner, St.-Ouen, Seine, France. Jan. 26, 1933, No. 2500. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1932. [Class 83 (i).] Moulding-machines.-A machine for making sand moulds has a plurality of platforms 1, such as described in Specification 399,683, [Group XXX], capable of vertical movement on an intermittently-moving endless conveyer C which carries flasks 14, placed on the platforms, to devices for filling and ramming, the conveyer being locked against movement during both these operations, stripping means also being provided. Each platform carries a pattern plate 12, Fig. 2, and a spring- supported false flask 13 upon which an empty flask 14 is placed by hand. When pairs of flasks reach the filling and ramming positions, a stop 4 on a platform 1 engages a lever 58 on a fixed pivot and thus lifts a rod 56 to open a switch 5 in the circuit of the motor 3, Fig. 1, and switch-on a brake 6 thus stopping the conveyer. Hoppers 27 are each charged with a predetermined quantity of sand from a hopper 20, having an adjustable opening A, by a belt 21 which is driven by a motor 24 stopped automatically by a switch 26. The hoppers 27 are discharged into the two flasks 14 beneath them by closures 28 and handles 30, and the motor 24 restarted by a hand-switch 23. A handle 43, Fig. 1, is also pressed down to insert positioning bolts 42 between adjacent platforms and open a cock to admit fluid pressure below plungers 34, Fig. 2, and raise these platforms, from the conveyer to press the moulds against adjustable or self-adjusting heads 38. The handle 43 is then returned to lower the plungers, the springs 18 drawing the mould from the patterns. Inclines 51, Fig. 6, connected to the pistons 34 engage bell cranks 54 which prevent the rod 56 from being lowered to start the motor 3 until the moulds &c. have been lowered. The motor 3 is restarted by pressing the switch 2, Fig. 2, until the levers 58 are clear of the stops 4. In a modification of stops 4 act directly on one switch and the rams 34 on two other switches all in the circuit of the motor 3. The moulds are then removed by hand. If desired the belts 21 may deliver sand directly to the flasks while at rest or a single press button may be used to start both the motors 3 and 24. According to modifications the false flasks may be arranged above instead of below-the flasks and may be filled from ordinary hoppers, the closures 28 being operated automatically or by hand, and, instead of being dealt with in " pairs," the moulds may be dealt with singly or in numbers larger than two.
