Abstract
408,740. Pugging and de - aerating clay. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(International Clay Machinery Co. ; 1145, Bolander Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 10, 1932, No. 35058. [Class 87 (ii).] In preparing and de-aerating clay for moulding, the material is passed in turn through a pugmill 5, a de-aerating chamber 6, and an extrusion chamber 7. All the chambers are traversed by a single worm shaft driven by the motor 2 through a flexible coupling and suitable reduction gear. In the chamber 5 the shaft is provided with skeleton pugging blades 8, and a single convolution 12 which severs the foremost material and delivers it to the chamber 6 through the detachable coned die 13 furnished with a renewable ring 14. The chamber 6 is exhausted through the nozzle 19 in the gasketed removable cover 16 carrying the baffle plate 18, and the shaft therein is furnished with blades 15 for re-pugging, one of which acts as a cutting blade for severing the clay delivered through the die 13. The extrusion chamber 7 carries a renewable lining 21 and the shaft therein is furnished with a complete worm for delivery through the die 23. Tension rods 25 connect the forward end of the extrusion barrel to the standard 4.
