Abstract

408,305. Making wheels. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 67, Breitestrasse, D³sseldorf, Germany. Sept. 30, 1932, No. 27177. Convention date, March 10. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Forging-dies; corrugating.-Disc wheels or the like are produced by a die pressing operation in which the disc part between the hub and the rim and its junction to the rim are pressed in alternate axial directions and the junction is simultaneously displaced relatively to the rim. Rolled discs 1 (dotted) with the fillets between web and hub and web and rim of large radii of curvature R1, R2 are given alternate radial corrugations by the dies 4, 5, the final shape 6, 7 showa reduction in the radii of the fillets r1, r2 and r3, r4. The dies are cone-shaped where they engage the periphery of the wheel to facilitate removal of the wheel, a ridge 10 is also provided on the rim for this purpose.
