[Class 138 (i).] The wiper arm of an oscillatory windscreencleaner has pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the windscreen, and rigid with the arm is a cam adapted to co-operate with a spring so that when the spring bears against one surface of the cam the wiper is pressed against the windscreen and when it bears against a second surface of the cam it acts to retain the wiper in a position withdrawn from the screen. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 4, the end of the wiper arm 18 is secured within a barrel 19 provided within a housing 15 connected to the driving spindle 12. The barrel is formed with a cam 24 adapted to engage a plate spring 26 so that the wiper may be held by the spring in either of two positions, in one of which, shown in full lines, it bears against the screen and in the other position, indicated by chain lines, it is withdrawn from contact with the screen. The wiper may be connected by a crossbar to a second wiper with a similar arrangement at the end of the wiper arm. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the wiper arm 18 is connected to a barrel 30 provided with a roller 29 for engagement with the plate spring 26. The barrel is mounted on a pivot pin 31 fitting in slideways 32 in the cheeks of the housing 15, and held in position by clamping nuts. By adjustment of its position the pressure exerted by the spring 26 against the wiper arm may be varied. In a further modification shown in Fig. 8, the arm 18 protrudes through a cylindrical barrel 34 for engagement by the plate spring, and is held in place by a set screw 20.
