Abstract

406,188. Tobacco pipes. LAVIETES, D. P., 198, Terrace Place, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. July 6, 1933, No. 19223. [Class 130.] In a pipe in which the bowl shank 11 and the mouthpiece 13 are connected by a unit consisting of a tapered plug 14 and a sleeve 27 with a space 29 between the end of the sleeve and a part of the plug, to allow wear to be taken up, a duct 30 admits air from the space 29 to the smoke bore 22. As shown, the plug 14 is formed with a flange 17, a threaded nipple 16 screwed into the shank 11, and a tubular portion 15 extending into a chamber 25 in the mouthpiece, into which also extends a tube 24. In a modification, the tapered sleeve is fitted in the end of the shank 11 and the tapered plug is mounted in the end of the mouthpiece.
