Abstract
Acid or alkali respectively is added to initially alkaline or acid molasses for use in the manufacture of yeast, in quantity sufficient to render the liquid neutral or slightly acid, and the suspension of solid matter is thereupon removed by centrifuging, preferably after boiling for some minutes, and either immediately after the addition of acid or alkali, or after an interval of time, for example, five minutes to an hour. Before the addition, the molasses may be diluted with either cold or hot water, and the diluted mixture may be heated or not as desired. An example is given.
