[Class 146 (i).] In loose-leaf books having telescopic posts mounted on clamping-bars and enclosing springs for drawing the clamping-bars together, some of the posts are movable longitudinally of the clamping-bars by cords extending between the bars and engage locking slots on the leaves. As shown, the posts c are fixed to the clamping- bars a and the posts f are mounted on a slide g on each clamping-bar. Springs k tend to move the posts f to the position shown dotted where they engage L-shaped slots in the leaves and lock them in the book. A cord m is attached to each slide g and passes through one of the fixed posts and is fastened to the opposite bar a so that when the bars a are moved apart, the posts f are moved automatically to sheetreleasing position. A single cord attached to both slides g may be employed. Further, separate slides for the base of each post f may be provided and the springs k and cords m arranged so that the posts move in opposite directions, the slots in the leaves being arranged to correspond : a flanged plate b of curved cross-section is slid over the bar a to cover the mechanism when it has been assembled thereon.
