Abstract

Apparatus for effecting gas reactions comprises a number of tubes 24 of refractory ceramic material enclosed in a furnace 14 and connected by elastic joints to the gas supply pipes. The delivery ends of the tubes pass through stuffing-boxes &c. into a chamber 45 <PICT:0405462/III/1> <PICT:0405462/III/2> <PICT:0405462/III/3> into which a cooling liquid is sprayed. The deposition of condensible constituents in the reaction tubes is thereby avoided. The cooling liquid and the reaction gases are led alternately into the vessels 38, 39 in which they are separated from one another. Furnaces.--The heating chamber 14 is provided at each side with regenerators 17, 18 through which the air for combustion is supplied alternately. The gaseous fuel is fed through channels 23 in the mixing block 20 (Figs. 1 and 3) which are perpendicular to the air channels 22. Spray - producers.--The cooling liquid is atomized by the device shown in Fig. 4. The liquid is admitted to the chamber 50 by inclined passages 35 which give it a rotating motion. An adjustable conical deflector 51 is centrally situated in the discharge orifice.
