[Classes 94 (i) and 94 (ii).] In wrapping packages or cartons with an outer covering of regenerated cellulosic material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," the articles are wrapped or the packages are sealed with sheets or strips of the cellulosic material carrying thereon adhesive of the composition claimed in Specification 405,263, [Group III]. Strips 16 of this material may be used to seal the joints 11 of inner wrappers 15, and the strips or outer wrappers may be coloured to correspond with the colour of the inner wrapper or carton. The material may be formed as shown in Fig. 6, in strips a, with longitudinal strips band transverse strips b<1> of the adhesive. The packaging or sealing may be carried out by uniting two layers 23, 24 of the material as shown in Fig. 5. As shown the sheets a are coated with waterproofing compounds such as pyroxylin, varnish, lacquer or the like in a layer c, and a layer b of the above-mentioned adhesive. The layers are united by passing the layer 24 between guide rolls 25, 26, of which the latter is a moistening roll in contact with a transfer roll 27 moistened by a wick 28 leading from a supply of organic solvent. In its continued movement, the layer 24 passes beneath a pressure roll 29 and is pressed into engagement with the layer 23 on the package The moistening may be omitted when the pressure sensitive form of the adhesive is used.
