Be it known that I, JOHN S'rocnnLL STOKES, a citizen of the United States, re-' siding at Moorestown, lington and State of New Jersey, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Air or Moisture Proof Packages, of which the following is a specification.- v
This invention relates to air or moistureproof packages, and more especially to packages of the sealed wrapped type wherein the wrapper is adhesively secured to exterior faces of the commodity container.
.The envelopment of the commodity container by a suitable wrapping blank with the blank folded about the container and adhesively secured to exterior faces of the container, isone of the developments in packaging operations of I recent years, the arrangement being such as to perblank' to be applied by automatic or semi-automatic machines. This ability to complete the packaging by mechanical manipulation not only provides for comparatively high capacity output, but in addition general enables the package wrapping to be uniform so as to provide packages of uniform ap pearance. Packages of this type are generally air proof and, to someextent, moistureproof, through the fact that the adhesive by which the blank is secured to the container is generally applied throughout the surface extent of the securing face of the blank,
thus providing a coatingwhich tends to prevent access of moisture to the container and its contents.
The present invention is designed more particularly to meet these conditions, this result being had by generally protecting this coating against the effect of these conditions, by interposing between the coated face of the wrapper blank and theexterior of the package a layer which is substantially air and moisture-proof in character,

In addition, it is desirable, both by, reason of the package formation and of the machine operation, that the wrapper be comparatively light in weight.

In the present invention I meet these difficulties by the use of acompo'site-sheet for the blank, this sheet hem of ply formatio'n -generally two plies o paper-the plies being united by the paraffin layer, the latter being comparatively thin. The paper plies are preferably of comparatively thin stock and are preferably of calendered paper- .tissue paper or the commercial product known as glacine paper may be employed.
