Abstract

The surface of rubber articles, particularly those made of highly loaded stocks, is improved in appearance, soils less easily, is more readily cleaned, and less likely to bleach, by subjecting the articles to ultra violet light. The ageing properties are not affected. A suitable treatment consists of exposure for 5 mins. upwards at 3 inches from a quartz mercury lamp operating at 7 amps and 140 volts, or 20-30 mins. at 15 inches.
