[Class 5 (ii).] A drinking appliance for birds or animals comprises a vessel a open at its upper part, a trough a3 external to the vessel a and communicating therewith, and a telescopic inverted cupshaped closure member b slidable within the vessel a and provided with a removable plug or closure member b<3> for filling purposes, the trough a<3> having inclined extremities a<5> which facilitate cleaning. The trough is replenished from the vessel a on the birdfountain principle. The vessel a and member b comprise handles a<6>, b<1> respectively and communication between the vessel a and trough a<3> is afforded by a cock a<4> which is closed during filling and open when the appliance is in use.
