Abstract

403,721. Filters. WILDERMAN, M., Villa Meurice, Rue Bosio, Monte Carlo. June 30, 1932, No. 18554. [Class 46.] Filter apparatus comprises a casing with detachable ends and containing a number of double filter plates or single plates with internal channels, the plates being made of porous ebonite, soft-to-hard rubber or other rigid porous material and being arranged vertically with intermediate spaces so as to allow of the formation of cakes or deposits on the faces of the plates and the free expansion or contraction of the plates due to temperature changes. Plates as described in Specifications 358,526, and 307,525, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], may be used. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which plates 4 are supported in a casing 1 of rectangular cross-section on transverse bars 15. The plates are spaced apart in notches in horizontal bars fixed to the sides of the casing. The filtrate passes from the interior of the plates through pipes 8 and a main 10. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the casing 1 is of circular cross-section. The liquid under treatment may be circulated through the casing entering through a pipe 16 and leaving through a pipe 20. The bottom 17 is normally bolted to the casing but when the bolts 22 are loosened, it can be let down by means of screw devices e, Fig. 7, provided in connection with each flange 25, so that wheels b rest on rails 26 and the bottom can be drawn aside. Cakes or deposit can then be removed simultaneously from all the plates by admitting water or air under pressure either through a pipe 19 in the top of the casing or to the interior of the plates, The devices shown in Fig. 7 may be provided for the lid as well as for the bottom of the casing. To facilitate the detachment of the solid matter the plates may be narrower at the bottom than at the top. Fig. 9 shows a horizontal cross-section of another modification in which the plates are supported on a framework moving on rails within the casing and extending outside it. Alternate plates are connected to outlet pipes 10 at opposite sides of the casing so that water for washing the cakes can be admitted through alternate plates and discharged from the others. When joints 33 are disconnected and the cover 31 removed, the plates can be removed as a single unit from the casing for cleansing. A filter-aid such as asbestos may be deposited on the plates before filtration starts. Provision may be made for heating the liquid under treatment in the filter. Metal surfaces within the filter may be lined with rubber.
