Abstract
368,492. Filters. SOC. FRANCAISE DES CONSTRUCTIONS BABCOCK & WILCOX, 48, Rue la Boetie, Paris. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4641. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1930. [Class 46.] A rotatable filter element is mounted to extend across a passage through which gas flows, a portion of the filter projecting into an .isolation or cleaning chamber, so that successive sections of the filter are brought into the isolation chamber. The element is placed in a widened part of the gas passage and coaxial with the inlet and outlet for the gas. As shown a filter is mounted in a cylinder 3 connected to inlet and outlet pipes 1, 1<1> by tapering parts 2, 2<1>. The filtering medium, which may be coke, sand, sandstone, clinkers, shavings or Rashig rings, is packed between sieves 7, 7<1>, in a cylinder 4 divided into sections by partitions 5. A frame consisting of braces 10, 11, sectorshaped plates 12, 13 and centre plate 16 is placed on either side of the filter. Oblique partitions 19 extend from the plates 16 to the peripheral wall of the casing. The normal flow of fluid under treatment is upward, and the filter is rotated by means of a driving pinion 29 to bring successive sectors into position between the plates 12, 13 where they are cleansed by a reverse flow of gas or liquid or mixed gas and liquid, supplied through nozzles on a distributing pipe 22, the impurities which have collected in the filter being caused to fall into a funnel 24. Air is drawn in by suction through a pipe 31 to the space beneath a cap 32 which covers the filter sector subjected to cleansing treatment. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the apparatus may be used for filtering liquids. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
