[Class 17 (i).] Shoes, removing from lasts.-In a machine for removing shoes from lasts, hydraulic means is employed for both pressing the shoe on the last against a shoeremoving tool, and for removing the shoe. A gearwheel pump 3 delivers oil from the bottom of a casing 1 to a pressure pipe 6 communicating with a control valve 25 actuated by a treadle 32 and with a piston 13. This piston actuates an arm 20 carrying the last pin 21 adjacent to a rubber roll 10 which may be fluted or otherwise shaped to correspond to the heel end of the shoe. The roll is mounted on a piston 8 in a cylinder opening into the cylinder of the piston 13. The latter piston is provided with a coaxial sleeve 17 serving as a seat for a spring pressed ball valve 15 beyond which is a passage 13c opening into an annular recess 13b. At the other end of the piston is an annular recess 13a normally connecting the uppermost cylinder with an oil return passage 7c. The valve 25 has an annular recess 25a normally connecting the pressure pipe 6 with the return passage 7c this recess having an extension leading to an excess pressure relief valve comprising a bored seating 26, ball valve 27 and spring plunger 28. In operation, a lasted shoe is positioned on the last pin. The treadle is depressed moving the valve 25 which closes the oil return passage and causes the oil to press the shoe against the rubber roll. The valve 15 then yields, and oil flowing past it raises the piston 8 with the result that the heel end of the shoe is moved upwardly. Should the treadle be inadvertently kept depressed, a return pipe 37 limits the ascent of the piston 8. Release of the treadle allows all parts to return to starting position.
