Abstract
401,905. Matches. OLSSON, K. E., 19, Norrbackagatan, Stockholm. Dec. 19, 1932, No. 35983. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1931. [Class 50.] Repeatedly ignitable composition rods comprise a combustible mass of organic substances which leave no ash on burning and an igniting mass segregated therefrom and containing an oxygen developing substance such as potassium chlorate with a binder having so low an affinity for oxygen and present in such proportion that the igniting mass is not combustible or at least cannot burn more quickly than the combustible body material. Aldehydes such as metaldehyde and amines such as hexamethylene tetramine may be used for the body material with a binder of nitrocellulose dissolved in acetone, and oxygen developing substances such as ammonium perchlorate, or volatile substances such as benzene or alcohol may be included to increase the speed of combustion. A more readily inflammable substance may be employed next to the igniting mass which may consist of up to 70 per cent of potassium chlorate or of ammonium perchlorate with a binder of alkali silicate such as water glass, cement or gypsum. Artificial resins such as the compound known under the registered trade mark " Bakelite," or cellulose derivatives such as cellulose acetate may be used as binders when a flame is required to ignite the body material as distinct from an igniting spark. Powdered glass or other friction substances may be included. The igniting mass may be in the form of a string within the rod or pressed in an external groove or may be applied as a cover all round or over parts of the surface of the body material. Ordinary phosphoruscontaining striking surfaces comprising, e.g. amorphous phosphorus, antimony sulphide, ground glass and gum arabic, may be employed for the ignition of the rods. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the inclusion of sulphur in the igniting mass. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
