Abstract

401,892. Percussive drills. POTTER, H. S., Lower Ross Street, Doornfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Nov. 24, 1932, No. 33265. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1931. [Class 124.] The supply of motive fluid and of cleaning water to a rock drill are simultaneously controlled by the valve 8, the cam surface 23 of which pinches the water hose 16. This valve is situated at about the middle of length of the machine. An ejector 65, Fig. V, worked by exhaust motive fluid from the port 64 draws water which has leaked into the chuck 66 through the passages 69, 71 to the atmosphere through the orifice 74. The tool chuck 61 has a hard metal bearing 85 at its front end. Grease for the front end, chuck, &c. is contained in longitudinal grooves 53 under the flexible sleeve 51, each groove being connected to a separate part which it is desired to lubricate, the external surface of the sleeve bearing an indication of the destination of the grease contained in the groove under. Thick lubricant for the twist mechanism is contained in the handle 7 and is forced through the passages 44, 49 by the spring pressed plunger 43. Thin lubricant is contained in the handle 6 and is fed by gravity to a wad surrounding the tube 38, Fig. VII, in the motive fluid line. Specifications 157,487, 251,686, 320,907 and 338,792, [all in Class 124, Stone &c.], are referred to.
