[Class 97 (i).] Film-winding apparatus comprises two or more concentric discs carrying a film roll, the inner disc being rotated at a speed greater than that sufficient to feed the film at the speed required by the projector, and a retarding device being provided to regulate the film speed. As shown, a disc 13 secured to a boss 14 removably mounted on a boss 7 secured to a spindle 3 is surrounded by a disc 10 loosely mounted on the spindle 3 between the boss 7 and a flange 9. The spindle 3 is driven by the projector mechanism, and directly rotates the disc 13 through a pin 8 connecting the bosses ; the disc 10 is rotated by the friction between it and the flange 9. The discs support a film roll 16 enclosed by a fixed circular casing 11 and by an annular cover 17 attached thereto by bayonet joints. The casing 11 is provided with a spout 12 through which film passes from the projector to the outside of the roll, and the cover 17 is provided with a slit extending from its periphery to its centre opening. The film passes to the projector through the centre opening, round a guide roller 21 serving also to press the film roll on to the disc 13, over a felt or like brake pad 22 serving also as a film cleaner, and over a film guide 28. The spindle 27 of the roller 21 is carried by the cover 17, the brake 22 is carried by a spring 23 adjustable on the spindle 27, and the guide 28 is also carried by the spindle 27. When the film roll is to be removed from the discs, a plate having a core is placed over it, and the core is secured to the boss 14 by bayonet joints.
