Abstract
400,942. Grinding internally. HARTRIDGE, L., The Queensway, Ponders End, Middlesex. March 23, 1932, No. 28747/33. Divided on 402,108. [Class 60.] A stand for use with tools for honing and grinding the bores of cylinders of internal - combustion engines, &c. and adapted for supporting the tool on a cylinder block, comprises a pillar 29 secured by a tightening device 62 in the boss of a foot 31 having slots 51 to receive the studs of the cylinder block. Secured to the pillar are two arms 32 having split ends, with tightening studs 52, which turnably support a rod 34 carrying two arms 35 supporting a rod 36. Slidably mounted on the rods is a casting 37 carrying an electric motor 39, which drives, through belt reduction gearing 44 .. 48, a spindle 49, which drives the honing, & c. tool; the pulleys 45, 47 are carried by a bush movable with the casting 37 and having an eccentric bore fitting over the rod 34, so that, by turning the bush, the belts may be tightened. The casting 37 is movable up and down on the rods 34, 36, to an extent limited by stops 58, by a lever 53 pivoted at 54 to the upper arm 35 and connected to the casting by a rod 55; a spring, or springs, 59 assists the upward movement. The pillar 29 is hollow and constitutes a reservoir for lubricant, for example, paraffin, which is supplied to the work by a flexible pipe 60.
