400,742. Glass manufacture. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Aug. 8, 1932, No. 22210. [Class 56.] Relates to glasses, of the kind described in Specification 378,012, which comprise an oxidic component and a vitrefying agent, and the latter consists partly or wholly of alumina and phosphorus pentoxide in equimolecular proportions. According to the present invention, more alumina is used, the amount being greater than that corresponding to the molecular proportion Al2O3, P2O5, but not greater than four parts by weight for each part by weight of the phosphorus pentoxide. The aluminium phosphate is used alone or together with other vitrefying compounds, such as silica or boric oxide. Examples of suitable mixtures are given in the Specification.
