400,743. Glass manufacture. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Aug. 8, 1932, No. 22211. [Class 56.] Relates to glasses, of the kind described in Specification 378,012, which comprise an oxidic component and a vitrefying agent, and the latter consists of equimolecular proportions of alumina and phosphorus pentoxide. According to the present invention, more phosphorus pentoxide is used, the amount being greater than the proportion indicated by the ratio 1P2O5: 1Al2O3, but less than that corresponding to the ratio 3P2O5 : 2Al2O3. The aluminium phosphate is used alone or together with other vitrefying compounds, such as silica or boric oxide. Examples of suitable mixtures are given in the Specification.
