Abstract

400,601. Safes. STENGEL, C., 31, Margit K÷rut, Budapest. April 25, 1932, No. 11813. [Class 44.] The safe and door are constructed of three or more walls enclosing two or more jackets or chambers which contain fluids at different pressures, preferably one below and one or more above atmospheric pressure. These chambers are connected by pipes to an alarm apparatus which operates upon a change taking place in the fluid pressures. The chambers 1, 2 in the safe are connected to corresponding chambers in the door 3 by means of flexible pipes 4, 5. A removable container 55 behind the door hinge is employed to facilitate the mounting of the parts. One form of alarm apparatus is shown in Fig. 9. The vacuum in the chamber 1 acts through a pipe 18 upon a plate 12, preferably of rubber, which supports a weight 15 upon a rod 13. Loss of vacuum in the chamber 1 causes the rod 13 to drop and operate a known alarm apparatus 17. One of the two pipes may be formed of lead and the other, which is arranged inside the larger pipe, may be constructed of glass. The alarm is operated in case of fire, due to fusing of the pipes. A locking apparatus which may be connected to the chambers 1, 2 comprises three locks 35, 30, 29, Fig. 5. Two glass air vessels 34, 25 hang behind the keyholes 33, 24, each connected by a flexible pipe with an air chamber. A key inserted into lock 35 acts upon a bolt 36 and swings the vessel 34 aside, and a key inserted in lock 30 acts upon a bolt 31 to clear the third keyhole 24. If a key is inserted in its wrong order, the air vessel is fractured and the air pressure in chamber 1 or 2 affected. An additional air vessel 37 is swung to the right by a handle on a spindle 39 before the door is unlocked, or else a point on a rod 40 will fracture the vessel which is connected to one of the air chambers. The pivot 39 may also be key-operated. The lock-bolts may be hollow and communicate with the air chambers. A plate of elastic metal may guard the inside of a keyhole, not protected by a glass vessel, which is pushed aside by a key thrust into the keyhole. If the door 3, Fig. 1, is left unlocked and the door is opened, pivoted levers 45, 43 cause a pointed projection to pierce an air vessel 42 through the action of an end 46 pressing on a projection x. To release this apparatus, an element 48 is moved to the left in co-operation with one of the lock-bolts, and pushes back the lever 45. An additional safety device comprises two sliding bolts perpendicular to one another, with projecting ramps which are allowed to pass one another if the bolts, which are connected to bolts 31, 36, are moved in the correct sequence. One chamber may be contained within the other in the form of a screen of pipes connected to one another. The alarm apparatus may be electrically operated, the wires passing through the pipes communicating with the air chambers.
