Abstract

399,676. Drafting patterns for wearing-apparel. ASHE, J. M., 2, Beaumont Street, Sandringham, Victoria, Australia. Dec. 12, 1932, No. 35145. Convention date, Jan. 29. [Class 141.] Pattern sections for drafting the patterns for cutting costumes, coats, dresses, and the like comprise a series of charts with measurement markings and holes, the sections for the front and back of a coat having pivotal points near the waist line. As shown, the sections for a coat comprise a half front section B, Fig. 2, a corresponding back section A, Fig. 1, an under arm section C, Fig. 3, and a combined sleeve and collar sections D, Fig. 4. Pivotal points L are provided for the sections A, B. Bust measurements H<2> .. H<7> are provided with holes for marking through to a paper pattern arranged below, and with terminal markings H<1> also corresponding to bust measurements. Terminal markings E on a line G correspond to measurements taken 6 inches below the natural waist line. The under arm section C contains markings corresponding to bust measurements, and also has a waist line I and a line G which correspond to similar lines on the other chart. Various shaped collar. sections P<1> are incorporated in the chart D. In forming the paper pattern shown in Fig. 10, a pencil line is drawn about 3 inches from the edge of the paper, thereby forming a section Z<2> for determining the size of the lapels. The coat front chart B is placed on the paper, with the pivot point L on the pencil line, and the chart is rotated until the marking H', corresponding to the particular bust measurements, lies on the pencil line. Points corresponding to bust measurements H<2> .. H<7> are marked on the paper, only one of two shoulder lines shown at H<4> being employed. The chart is again pivoted until the line K lies along the pencil line and a marking is made at E. After the chart is removed, the marked points are linked up, using the bottom G of the chart for the contour of the hip, and the upper part of the chart for linking the points on the lines H<2> .. H<7>. The line Z is used for joining the point on line H<6> to the point on the line E. Points Y are also marked and joined by means of line Z. Thereby a section X is formed which with a corresponding section made from the chart A is cut off and replaced by the under arm section C. To prevent wear, the holes for marking are in the form of reinforced eyelets.
