Abstract
399,386. Combined frictional igniter and electric flashlight. UNITED STATES ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CORPORATION, 222, West 14th Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Britsch, 0. C. ; Woodhaven, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 20, 1933, Nos. 5223 and 5224. Convention dates, Feb. 20,1932, and Nov. 11, 1932. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iii).] Two dry cells 10, 11, fitting in the concave sides of a fuel container 1, are supported and connected in series bv an insulated lever 7 pivoted between the bottom of the container and a baseplate 4, and a lamp bulb 26 is screwed down in a top plate 2 to engage its terminal 27 with the pole 12 of the cell 10 and thereby press the upper end of the cell 11 into contact with an insulating block 43 on an extension 42 of a member 40 carrying the friction-wheel 45. A plate spring 20, Fig. 1, having a curved end 21 engaging in a slot 29 in a cover 28 for retaining the latter in the open and closed positions and assisting its movement, is provided with a keyhole slot engaging the neck of a wick-tube 32 and tongues 23 engaging in openings in the plate 2 and is held in position by the member 40, the extension 42 passing through, and having a notch engaging one edge of, a rectangular opening in the top plate 2. The lamp switch 34 is pivoted at 36 in V-shaped notches in flanges 37<1> at the upper end of the container 1 and is provided with a contact extension 39 for engaging the negative pole of the cell 11. The thumb piece 35 of the switch extends through a recessed slot in the plate 2 and is provided with lateral shoulders 38 co-operating with the bent bifurcated end 22 of the spring 20 extending through the ends of the slot to provide a snap action. The thumb piece normally extends between projections 30 on the cover 28 so that, when the projections are pressed upwardly by the thumb for opening the cover, the thumb piece is pressed inwardly for closing the switch. The flint 47 is pressed by a spring 46 into contact with the friction-wheel 45, which is rotated by the finger for igniting the wick. The plate 2 is provided with a flange 49 for engaging the upper end of an outer casing.
