Abstract

398,241. Electric signalling systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and GRIFFITHS, J. B., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. March 11, 1932, No. 7287. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (i).] In a train-describing or train-indicating system provided with local and fast line boards, in the event of a train indicated as on the local line being transferred to the fast line, the fast line indications are stepped back and the local indication is transferred to the fast line board. Should a train not indicated on either board come on to the fast line, for example, from a siding, either all indications on the fast line board are extinguished or all indications are stepped back and a blank indication is displayed in the first position. The final indication on either board can be cancelled. As described, the system is similar to those described in Specifications 366,919 and 371,964. The local indicator board comprises 6 rows of relays, each row storing an indication, the rows being taken into use in turn, and the indications stored on the first three rows being displayed on a lamp indicator board. When the first train has passed the first indicator is cancelled and a sequence switch makes a single revolution during which each indication is stepped up on to the next row of relays. The lamps on the indicator board are extinguished until the first three relay groups have been reset. The main indicator board is of similar construction to the local board but comprises an additional row of relays which cannot be operated by incoming signals. The stepping on of indications is identical with that of the local board. If a local line train is transferred to the fast line, point and signal contacts are closed which start up a third sequence switch. All indications on the fast line board are stepped down, the indication on the sixth row of relays being extended to the additional row referred to above. The top indication from the local board is then transferred to the top row of relays on the fast line board and all the local indications are stepped up as previously mentioned. Should an additional train be passed from a siding on to the fast line a relay is operated, due to the closure of signal contacts, which cuts off the power from the main line indicator signal lamps and extinguishes all indications. Alternatively the relay may control the stepping back of the main indicator relay groups, a further relay being provided to prevent transfer of the first local indication on to the fast board. Under these conditions the first fast indicator displays a blank. The last stored designation on either board can be deleted by the receipt of a signal on the relative cancel wire. Full description of the system and circuit diagrams are given in the Specification.
