Abstract
398,214. Recording apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, and CHELIOTI, G., Osram G.E.C. Lamp Works, Brook Green, Hammersmith, both in London. March 1, 1932, No. 6249. [Class 106 (iv).] One recording-apparatus is successively connected to each of a number of devices influenced by the conditions or operations to be recorded, the apparatus comprising marking means, means for operating the marking means, and a control device successively associated with the said devices to determine whether or not the operating means shall be effective in actuating the marking means. In the embodiment shown, the apparatus is adapted for recording the results of burning-time tests on electric lamps. The record drum 11 is driven by a shaft 14 which also drives through a screw 16 a carriage 18 to which is pivoted the recording arm 15 pressed towards the drum by a spring 21 but normally withheld therefrom by a cam 22 and a controlling latch 23. Each lamp has a resistance 24 in its circuit, each resistance being connected through an amplifier 25 to an electromagnet 26. An arm 12 secured to the shaft of the drum makes contact with each resistance circuit in turn. If the corresponding lamp is alight, the potential difference across its resistance energizes the magnet 26 so that the circuit to a magnet 27 may be completed when a rapidly-rotating cam 28 closes contacts 29, the control latch 23 then being moved to release the arm 15 to make a mark. The arm is restored by the cam 22. The drum may be given an intermittent motion, in which case the contacts 29 are unnecessary. In other embodiments, photo-electric cells may be employed as the elements sensitive to the changes to be recorded.
