Abstract

A composition of matter for glazing, calking, and pointing, which retains its plasticity for long periods comprises 1-30 per cent of metallic aluminium, about 30 per cent of an oil, 1-50 per cent of a mineral filler, and 20-1 per cent of a fibrous material. The balance is composed of a fluid vehicle for the composition. Suitable mineral fillers are china clay, titanium white, ground shale or slate, silica, barytes, lithopone, fullers earth, soapstone, marble dust, gypsum, white lead, zinc white, and other natural pigments. Suitable fibrous materials are asbestos, shredded or ground rope or rags. Suitable oils are soya bean oil, linseed oil, perilla oil, cotton-seed oil, olive oil, rapeseed oil, corn oil, castor oil, fish oil, rosin oil, raisin oil, sunflower-seed oil, paraffin oil, wax oil, tung oil, poppy-seed oil, walnut oil, hempseed oil, maize oil, pine oil and oil soap. The preferred composition is whiting 12 parts, magnesium silicate 17 parts, asbestos fibre 5,45 parts, soya bean oil 30,6 parts, varnish 16,2 parts, mineral spirits 9 parts, aluminium powder 9 parts. It is stated that the aluminium powder comes to the surface and prevents oxidation of the other ingredients.
