[Class 9 (i).] A spool-shaped body 3, of which the flanges 2 may be readily broken away from the central stem portion 3<1>, is arranged in front of a blasting cartridge or set of cartridges 12 in a bore hole, the fuze wire 6 or a quick-match 61 passing through a central hole of the spool, or through notches in one of the flanges, or being wound around the part 3<1>. The spool, which may be made of fireproof impregnated wood, serves to keep the detonator in place, to protect the detonator during tamping, and to provide a free space between the explosive charge and the tamping. It may be wholly enclosed in a paper tube 14 containing the cartridge or cartridges, Figs. 4 and 6, or may have one of its flanges protruding from the tube, Fig. 5, the mouth of the tube being tied around the narrow part 3<1> of the spool. The detonator 5 may be located in the bore of the spool, Fig. 2a (not shown), or may be inserted in the front cartridge of a series, as in Fig. 5, or in an intermediate cartridge, Fig. 6. The fuze wire may serve for tying up the mouth of the tube 14, which can be folded over as shown in Fig. 6. In the case of a misfire, after the removal of the tamping an auxiliary charge may be inserted in front of the original charge, and the flame produced by explosion of the fresh charge penetrates to the main charge by breaking down the flanges 2.
