Abstract

397,232. Vehicle hoods. NORRIS, S., 9, Hovelands, Taunton, Somerset. March 24, 1932, No. 8746. [Class 108 (i).] The hinged flap B, C covering the rearwardly or forwardly facing dickey seat of a motor-car is slidably and detachably hinged or connected by equivalent means to the bottom of the rear curtain of the car so that when the flap is moved to a substantially vertical position it lifts the rear curtain to a horizontal position, the rear compartment thus formed being closed in by side-wings G, K comprising fabric curtains or stiff panels, the lower wing G being attached to each side of the flap and adapted if flexible to fold up and if stiff to lie in contact with the inside or outside of the lower part of the car body when in inoperative position. When the wings lie inside the body a sealing-edging is formed on each outer edge of the flap to prevent moisture from entering the bodywork and when they lie outside they are accommodated in slots in the mudguards or between the guard and body. The flap B, C may be connected to the rear curtain by (a) a panel pivoted to the flap and sliding in the curtain, which in this case is of U-section; (b) the insertion of one or more flexible or rigid sections between the parts, or (c) projections on the flap or on the curtain engaging slotted parts fixed on the curtain or flap respectively. A curtain may be hung inside the rear curtain to cut off the forward from the rear compartment. A window H is provided in the rear curtain and a shuttered window Q on the flap BC or in a door formed therein, for which door a step L is provided. Entrance to the dickey seat is made through the door in the flap or by raising the side-wings F. In the latter case the dickey seat may face forwards and a transparent panel or luggage door may be formed in the flap. The dickey seat hood may be raised manually or mechanically and may be assisted by spring means.
