Abstract

396,563. Coin - controlled timing- device. LUNDIN, K. A. E., 96, Saxogade, Copenhagen. Aug. 31, 1932, No. 24322. [Class 27.] Coin-controlled apparatus for permitting the use of a gramophone, radio set, or other article for a predetermined period of time comprises clockwork mechanism coupled with a pivoted coin channel which is normally locked, but which is released by a coin to enable the clockwork to be wound, the winding operation causing the channel to move and release the controlling mechanism of the article to be used.. As shown, the channel 2, pivoted at 3, is locked. by the engagement of a projection 9 thereon with teeth 10 on a pivoted arm 11 carrying a counterweight 12. The channel carries at its upper end a flexible band 4 which is wound on a roller 5 geared to the winding shaft 7 of the clockwork mechanism 6 ; this coupling may be replaced if desired by rack and pinion or other gear. Two coins are inserted through the slot 1 and fall to the bottom of the channel 2, the lower coin 13 releasing the latter by depressing the arm 11. The clockwork may now be wound by the handle 23 through the coupling 7, 18, Fig. 2, the band 4 being wound on the roller 5 and moving the channel 2 about its pivot ; as this occurs, the upper coin 131, which covers an opening 17 in the channel, engages a rod 15 which operates the switch, valve, or other device controlling the article to be used. The rod 15 is connected through a frame 16 with a sliding arm 21 formed with a cam slot 22 which engages a pivoted arm 19 connected with the coupling 7, 18, so that when the clockwork has been wound to a certain extent this coupling is broken, and the clockwork commences slowly to unwind. The channel 2 now moves back into engagement with the arm 11 under the action of a spring 14, the coins having fallen therefrom at the end of the winding operation, and as it does so it engages the frame 16 and restores the rod 15 and the coupling 7, 18 to their original positions.
