396,368. Wind-motors ; hydraulic turbines. IOCHUM, G. and IOCHUM, (nee ADOLPHE), M. L., 144, Boulevard de la Villette, Paris. Oct. 29, 1931, No. 30041. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 110 (iii).] Relates to turbine wheels of the transverse-flow type for use in wind or water, and consists mainly in means for limiting the feathering movement of the vanes. In Figs. 1 and 2, the vanes 9 are pivoted on spindles 1 .. 6 carried by a frame 20 and their rocking movement is limited by cords 17 which are secured at one end to the hub 7 and at the other to the free ends 10. They are acted on by springs 13 and several arrangements of cords are described. In a modification the movement is limited by stops on the framework. In further modifications the vanes are crossconnected in opposite pairs by cords, rods, cranks, gearing or liquid pipe lines. The sound caused by the vanes closing against the hub may be deadened by rubber pads. The bracing of the frame 20 and the method of mounting the vanes on the spindles are described in detail. Fig. 21 shows a modification in which additional vanes 108, 109 are provided. These are adapted to feather about radial axes, and they are cross-connected by cables 121 or by gearing in order to secure balance. This Figure also shows an electric generator 133 mounted on the tower and adapted to be driven by a circular rack 130, the batteries under charge being housed on the platforms of the tower. A pump may be provided in the base for forcing oil to a cup at the head of the tower from which it is distributed to the vane spindles. When used in water the wheel is suitably.boxed in.
