Abstract
395,860. Boring earth. SKWORZOW, M. M., 14, Krasnoarmeyskaya, Baku, U.S.S.R. June 13, 1932, No. 16719. [Class 85.] In a device for automatic feeding of the bit in rotary earth-drilling wherein a winch is driven by a worm, the direction of rotation of the worm being controlled by axial pressure of the bit on the working face, the worm is driven by an adjustable friction disc through a roller adapted to pass over the centre of the disc to reverse the drive. The drill is suspended from rope K passing round drum L which, during automatic drilling, is connected by clutch F1, sprocket Z1, and chain c1, to a worm wheel in mesh with a worm X1 ; slidable on the shaft of the worm X1 is a roller O driven by a friction disc i adjustable towards the roller and driven from an independent source or from the line shaft W2 through clutch F2 and chain C2. A variable weight G3 is connected through lever Y to the rope K ; excessive feed causes slackening of the rope K and lever Y moves outwardly, the weight G3 then contacting a counterbalanced lever R1 which, through link R2 and lever R3, moves the roller O and causes reduction or reversal of the feed. The worm X1 may be driven by handle S when desired.
