Abstract

395,754. Loading coal &c. in mines ; winding-engines. BROWN, S. WALTON-, Seghill Hall, Dudley, Northumberland. Jan. 22, 1932, No. 2051. [Classes 78 (iv) and 78 (v).] In a loading or conveying system comprising a bottomless or open-bottom scoop s drawn to and fro along the working face g to the gate A, the haulage engine a is placed at or near the working face so that the head and tail ropes e, f lead directly from the drums, or from guide rollers or sheaves on the haulage engine to the scoop or tail sheave, and the engine is portable for movement as the face advances. As shown in Fig. 2, the baseplate a<1> of the engine is movable along baulks c and is held in position by removable props b. The engine may be slued right round for hauling along the opposite face h as shown in broken lines, or ropes for the face h may be led from the bottom of the drums and scoops may be hauled along each face g, h in turn. The engine a may be moved bodily by anchoring the ropes or passing them round fixed sheaves and attaching them to the baseplate. The scoops discharge over shoots l of adjustable inclination into tubs k. The ropes may be guided on and off the drums by two sets of rollers z, Fig. 6, at each side, each set comprising four rollers, as shown. The rollers may be on anti-friction bearings and adjustable separately or in sets. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the engine is mounted on a turntable on a frame which is provided with skids and straddles a conveyer, the scoops discharging to the conveyer over shoots which may be mounted on the portable frame, or delivery may be to tubs, or to a gate-end loader &c. instead of a conveyer ; or the turntable support for the haulage engine may be mounted on the gate-end loader or conveyer. As shown in Fig. 6, the haulage engine a provided with skids 20 is carried on a turntable o on a frame p mounted on a gate-end loader m movable on rails. The switch controlling the loader m may be placed at 40 on the haulage structure. The rope leading from the top of a drum r and over a roller z passes beneath a roller or a fixed or sliding sheave y. The scoop delivers to the loader m over a platform l which may be hinged to the loader or detachable, and a platform l may be used at each side of the loader or at the end as shown in broken lines, according to the direction of haulage. A floodlight is provided at 10 directed on to the working face. In further modifications, Figs. 8, 9, and 10 (not shown), (1) the ropes are provided with couplings for connection alternatively to scoops in opposite galleries and in a gallery driven in advance of the gate, and to tubs in the gate ; (2) the drums are placed with their axes parallel with the working faces at either side of the gate and the two scoops are clamped to a single rope ; and (3) a scoop drawn along the face and a scoop working along the gate are operated simultaneously from the same drums. The haulage engine may be mounted on jacks ; the drums may be driven through slipping clutches from a continuously-running engine or motor, with a single-lever control for the main and tail haulage drums. An endless rope may be used, the engine being reversed automatically. The scoops may be used for moving coal cutters or materials and for filling goafs. Specifications 352,930 ; 356,275, 356,284, [both in Group X], 378,512, 379,365, and 380,789 are referred to.
