Abstract

394,179. Controlling-devices for fire doors. FISCHER, A. O., 35, Birkenstrasse, Bremen, Germany. Sept. 15, 1932, No. 25688. [Class 47 (ii).] A device for releasing automatically a self-closing fire door comprises a thermal element which is linked mechanically to a latch which holds the door open, the linkage being adjustable so that the element can be set to function at different temperatures. As shown in Fig. 1 a sliding fire door 7 is held open by a latch 5 engaging an abutment 6 on the door The latch is adjustably connected, by a screw and slot, to a link 4 which is pivoted to a bell-crank lever 2, one arm of which is engaged by a rod 1. The latter expands in case of fire, rocking the lever 2 and so releasing the latch 5. The bar 1 is of T or X-section. In a modification, Fig. 4, the latch 5<1> is carried by a rod 4<1> and is urged to release the door (not shown) by a spring 25. A vessel 13 filled with expansive liquid and fitted with a piston 16 is carried by a slide 12 adjustable along a plate 11 by means of a screw 20. The piston carries a rod 17 the free end of which engages a slide 27 movable along slideways 29 against a spring 30. The slide 27 carries a block 28 which normally prevents movement of the rod 4<1> to door-releasing position. In case of fire, the liquid in the vessel expands, and the rod 17 is moved against a spring 18, moving the slide 27 and releasing the latch. A pointer 31 carried by the slide 12 indicates, on a scale 32, the temperature at which the device is set to act. A pointer 33 carried by the rod 17 indicates, on a scale 34, the temperature prevailing at any time. The device is enclosed in a casing 10. The piston may be replaced by a diaphragm or elastic box.
