Abstract

393,832. Turning bags inside out. MILLIE PATENT HOLDING CO., Inc., 288, Southern Boulevard, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 17, 1932, No. 28941. Convention date, June 18. [Class 112.] Fabric bags, for tea, coffee, &c. are transferred from a bag-making or supply station to a station at which the bag is simultaneously filled and turned inside out. The bags 23, Fig. 4, arrive from the previous station on arms 22 on an intermittently rotating wheel 20 and are pierced by four needles 25, 26 mounted on a head 29 mounted to slide on guides 30 on a frame 31, Fig. 1, pivoted on a journal 32 and then in its lower horizontal position. After the bag has been engaged by the needles, the arms 22 are caused to approach each other, and to free the bag, by the action of an arm 33 on an extension 34 of one of the arms 22. The arms are intergeared and are normally urged apart by a spring 24. At about the same moment the stitching between the bags is severed as indicated in Fig. 3. The needles are moved relatively to each other to open the bag into the square formation shown in Fig. 8, the bag is withdrawn from the arms 22 by a sliding movement of the head 29 upon the frame 31, and the frame is moved into the vertical position shown in Fig. 1 ; the bag is now held mouth downwards over a supporting device 74 comprising relatively movable fingers 74<1>, 74<11>, Fig. 13. The frame descends to lower the bag into position, and pressing members on an arm 94 clamp the bag against the fingers when the frame withdraws. The fingers are mounted on an intermittently rotating table 75, and are opened by springs 85 on guide rods 86, the action being controlled by a fixed cam 84 an rollers 83 on the arms carrying the fingers 74<11>. A partial rotation of the table brings a bag beneath a vertically reciprocable spout 114, Fig. 15, which descends and turns the bag inside out. At the same time a charge of material passes down the spout into the bag, which is delivered on to a table 115, and removed therefrom in any convenient fashion.
