Abstract

Azo dyes, chromium compounds of.--Azo dyes containing chromium of high solubility in water and very good equalizing power and giving on wool reddish blue and marine blue dyeings very fast to light are obtained by treating with an agent yielding chromium azo dyestuffs obtainable by coupling a diazotized halogen-2-aminophenolsulphonic acid with 1 : 5-naphtholsulphonic acid. Specified diazo components are 4-chloro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid, 6-chloro - 2 - aminophenol - 4 - sulphonic acid, 4 - chloro-2-aminophenol-5-sulphonic acid and the corresponding bromo derivatives. In an example the dyestuff 4-chloro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid --> 1 : 5-naphtholsulphonic acid is boiled for 15 hours under reflux with a solution of chromium fluoride, chromium formate, chromium sulphate or chromium chloride. An example of the dyeing process is given. Specifications 26460/12, 260,830, and 295,050, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. 4-Bromo-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid is obtained by sulphonating p 4-bromo-2-nitrophenol and reducing the nitro group. 6-Bromo-2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid is obtained by nitrating 2-bromophenol-4-sulphonic acid and reducing the nitro group. 4-Bromo-2-aminophenol-5-sulphonic acid is obtained by sulphonating 4-bromo-2-aminophenol.
