393,659. Apparatus for cooking in fat and oil and for grilling. RUSHTON, F., Belmont, Green Meadow Road, Newport, Monmouthshire. Dec. 12, 1931, No. 34506. [Class 28 (i).] Apparatus for cooking fish, chipped potatoes, &c. comprises a drum rotated, as by a motor f, and carrying the food first through a tank a of heated oil or fat and then under a heated grilling plate m<2> which continues the cooking. The drum may be divided into a number of compartments each containing a basket k, which may contain a portable container. The baskets may be hinged at one edge to the bars j connecting the ends of the drum so that the baskets may be swung out of the drum at the front. Alternatively, suitably shaped baskets may be slid into the drum from the end. The walls of the tank a may be double with heatinsulating material b between them. The oil or fat may be heated by gas, oil or electricity. A removable cleaning apparatus c may be provided at the bottom of the tank for removing dross without emptying the tank. The upper part of the tank may be covered by a doublewalled cover m with heat-insulating material between the walls. The front part m of the cover may be formed either as a hinged flap or as a shaped shutter so that the container may be swung outwardly; clutch means may be provided for localizing the compartments of the drum behind this opening. Vapour may be drawn off through a manifold and an outlet d connected to a fan e.
