Abstract

393,518. Alternating-current induction motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, and BALL, R. D., Phoenix Works, Bradford, Yorkshire. Dec. 21, 1932, No. 36202. [Class 35.] For controlling a split-phase motor of the type employing capacity 3, 4 in the auxiliary phase 2, one end of the main winding 1 is connected to the supply main A, a starting resistance 5 has one end connected to the other supply main B, and switchgear is adapted in the starting position to connect the other end of the main winding to the free end of the resistance, and the starting winding in series with capacity to the mains, and in the running position to disconnect the main winding from the free end of the resistance and to connect it directly to the supply main and to reduce the capacity in series with or to re-group sections of the auxiliary winding. As shown, switches 6.. 10 are arranged in two rows, and are operated manually or centrifugally, the upper row being closed for starting and the lower row for normal running. At starting, capacities 3, 4, which, as shown, comprise a three-plate condenser, are in parallel and during normal running they are connected in series. Alternatively, switches 7, 8, 10 may be adapted to disconnect or short circuit one of the condensers or to re-group sections of the auxiliary winding as described in Specification 386,512, or the auxiliary winding may be disconnected.
