Abstract

393,075. Boxes &c. MICHAELIS, K., 34, Hubertusallee, Grunewald, Berlin. May 17, 1932, No. 14005. Convention date, Jan. 21. [Class 18.] A collapsable box, crate, &c. comprises a rigid, continuous, rectangular metal frame 7, Fig. 3, surrounding the bottom of the box and provided with an inwardly projecting flange 9 adapted to engage grooves in the removable walls 6 when the latter are arranged in situ to form the box body. The grooves extend round the vertical edges of the sides which are placed in position before the ends. A further flange 8 on the frame engages underneath or, as shown, in a recess in the bottom which, like the sides, consists of three boards 1 screwed to cross strips 3. The frame 7 consists of straight sections riveted to corner-pieces, and it may be of inverted L-section and secured to the bottom by means of tongues stamped out of the frame or the sharp edges of holes punched therein, and it may also be provided with projecting pins, tongues, &c. to engage corresponding recesses in the boards. The lower edge of the groove in which the flange 9 engages may be protected by a sheet-metal band or a ]-shaped member formed with pointed projections, both reinforcing devices being driven into the material of the sides. The ends 6 of the box are bevelled at 14 to facilitate inserting their lower edges in recesses 5 in the bottom, and they are held in position by angle-pieces on the ends of the sides. The cover is embraced on three sides by a frame 19, Fig. 5, partly of inverted L and partly of ]-section, the bottom flange of this frame engaging in corresponding notches in the sides and one end of the box. When the cover is put on tongues 25 secured thereto engage in recesses 28, Fig. 6, in the adjacent end wall and a spring hook 26 slips under a bridge member 31, the cover being released by depressing the hook 26 by means of a nail &c. inserted in a hole 32. To detect tampering with the box, a slip of paper or cardboard slid into a slit 33 is pierced when the hook is depressed.
