Abstract
393,046. Washing grain. CRUIKSHANK, W. P., Chancelot Cottage, Dalmeny Road, Bonnington, Edinburgh. March 24, 1932, No. 8729. [Class 58.] A cereal, e.g. wheat, is washed and saturated to the extent necessary for milling by intro- - ducing the cereal and water through inlets G, H respectively into one end of a tank A and passing them to the other end by means of two worm conveyers mounted on shafts B, C rotating in opposite directions, the worms comprising conveying segments D and segments E set at opposite or varying angles so as to retard the flow of the cereal. Soluble matter and dirt are separated from the cereal and the cereal and the water are raised by paddles J, K on the shafts B, C and discharged through an outlet L provided with an adjustable gate M. The level of the outlet is set so that the cereal is substantially immersed throughout its passage along the tank. Any number of tanks may be employed ; for example, the tanks may be superposed and arranged to discharge into a common exit.
