Abstract

392,503. Axle-boxes. ALBECK, A. F. 17, Pfannenstiel, Augsburg, Germany. Sept. 27, 1932, No. 8677/33. Divided application. [Class 12 (i).] An axle-box 2 has on its inside around the opening for the axle two flanges 5, 6 side by side for catching oil thrown up by the axle, these flanges being separated from each other by a channel 7, the depth of which decreases from the part above the opening to the part below the opening. The flange' 5 overhangs the flange 6 at the top, but droops away from it at the bottom so that the groove 7 merges into a crescent-shaped part 8 below the oil level in the box. The flange 6 is bevelled above and below the opening so that its edge is downwardly inclined towards the interior of the box. The entrance of foreign matter is prevented by a flanged ring 10 on the axle and a felt disc 9. The axle is provided with a coned flange 3 for flinging oil into ducts leading to the bearings and ribs 4 for restraining oil from leaking through the opening.
