Abstract

392,456. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Carlson, W. La V. ; Haddonfield Manor Apartments, Haddonfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Nov. 15, 1932, No. 32323. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1931. [Class 40 (v).] Television and sound signals are transmitted on neighbouring carrier frequencies, for example 50,000 and 51,000 kilocycles, and are received by superheterodyne circuits. The tuning circuits 35, 36 of a high-frequency amplifier 11 are sufficiently damped to receive both carrier frequencies, and are ganged with the tuning circuit 37 of a local oscillator 14. The signals are passed through detectors 12, 13 to intermediate frequency amplifiers A, B tuned respectively to the sound and television signals. The sound signals are removed from. the tele- , vision amplifier by acceptor circuits 20a, 23a. All the television signals are passed by a detector 24 to control the emission in a cathoderay tube 26, but detectors 23, 25 are biased to respond only to the peaks of the horizontal and vertical scanning frequencies respectively. Potentiometers 32, 33, 34 control the outputs from the detectors. A gain-regulating valve 39 applies a variable grid bias to the first valve 20 in the intermediate amplifier B, and may also control the grid bias of the first valve 15 of the amplifier A in place of a potentiometer 15a. According to modifications : two heterodyne stages are used for each set of signals, Fig. 2 (not shown) ; separate carrier frequencies are used for the sound signals, the television signals and the two synchronizing signals, Fig. 3 (not shown) ; a common second detector is used for the television and synchronizing signals, Fig. 4 (not shown).
