Abstract
392,116. Rotary compressers. SWISS LOCOMOTIVE & MACHINE WORKS, Winterthur, Switzerland. Dec. 19, 1932, No. 35953. Convention date, Feb. 12. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (ii).] A rotary compresser 1 driven by an electric motor 3 is automatically stopped by pneumatic, electric or thermostatic means, when abnormal conditions prevail in one of the following : (a) pressures in the low and high pressure mains 10, 9, (b) cooling water system 2, 5, (c) driving motor 3 or (d) in the lubrication system 16, and automatically restarted when normality is reached. These systems are connected electrically with the driving motor through a switch box 4. When the pressure in mains 10 is too low, or that in the delivery mains 9 is too high, mercury contacts 11, 8 operate to cut out the motor, and switch in again when the pressures are within a certain range. A magnetically operated valve 6 also closes the outlet 5 of the cooling-water jacket. The 3-phase motor is switched off by magnetic switches 15 if only two phases are operating. Other means to break contact in the electrical system comprise (1) a thermometer 12 should the temperature in the cooling jacket become excessive, (2) a float contact 17 in the lubricator 16 should the oil level fall too low.
